The latest trends are officially upon us, as another New York Fashion Week is in the books. Reflecting on the looks we’ve seen parade down the runway, it’s not just the threads that stick out, but also the hottest nail, hair and makeup styles. Below are three beauty trends inspired by New York Fashion Week.
1. Makeup Trend: Minimalism
If you’re the Norma Jeane type, Fashion Week 2014 was designed just for you! Straying from its typical Avant-Garde makeup, this year was all about minimalism. Models at the Phillip Lim show only wore tinted moisturizer and skin-smoothing concealer, while Marc Jacobs boldly chose to have his models wear no makeup at all. Not only is this new trend fabulous because it showcases natural beauty, but it also makes it easy for us to achieve at home! Marilyn Monroe Spas’ MM Cream ($38) has the lightweight feel of a tinted moisturizer, the benefit of a good SPF and the skin perfection of a primer. It’s ideal for creating an effortless, au-natural look. A natural glow is captured by the model pictured below, but if you feel like spicing the nude look up just a notch, a bold statement lip color such as our Midnight Kiss lipstick ($18.50) is the only addition you’ll need.
2. Hair Trends: Sleek Styles or Loose Waves
The minimalistic look also translated into hairstyles displayed on the runway. The most popular styles included hair slicked down and tucked behind the ears or pulled back into a bun as well as woven hair in a single braid. The best part of the braid is that the next day you can take it out and follow another top trend: loose waves. If you’re looking for the perfect product to achieve sleek and shiny locks, Marilyn Monroe Spas Soft and Strong Repair Shampoo and Conditioner ($20 each) will do the trick. The natural formula will leave your hair irresistibly soft, strong and red-carpet ready!
3. Nails: Nail Art, Black and White, Nude
If you were under the impression that nail art was on its way out, New York Fashion Week’s designers proved you very, very wrong. In line with the overall theme, nail art seen on the runway was clean and precise. Linear accents and half moon designs were popular, as was white polish designs, nude shades and classic manicures featuring black and white patterns. The talented Marilyn Monroe Spa nail technicians recreated the look pictured below.
What did New York Fashion Week 2014 teach us? You can say goodbye to spending hours getting ready in the morning, because less is more, according to the runway. Now is the time to let your natural beauty shine through!
