1. Half of New Yorkers are single

Believe it or not, New York is statistically one of the best states to meet people, as half of its residents are unmarried. It might sometimes feel like there aren’t many fish in the sea, but with the number of single Americans on the rise, there are more unattached people than ever in the city! Another interesting stat: people in New York tend to get married later in life compared to singles in other cities/states (probably because they are so focused on their careers). In New York state, the median age for a woman to get married is 28.4, and for men, its 30.3. So, don’t fret if you’re still unattached…there is still plenty of time to meet the One.

2. Dating is seen as a chore for New Yorkers

These days, everyone is busy with their careers and social lives. However, New Yorkers will say that they’re the busiest, not having the time to squeeze in a half-hour of exercise on a random Tuesday, let alone vet their online dating messages and requests! Dating has become a chore, rather than an opportunity.

People in New York also tend to reference the industry they work in when asked why they are single. For instance, I’ve heard, “I work in fashion; I never meet any men!” and “I’m not a typical banker. I think my job attracts the wrong kind of women.” Reality check: there is no ideal industry to work in when it comes to dating. You have to be proactive and treat dating like it’s a second job to see results. If you’re too busy or don’t have the energy, you can always outsource your love life to a TDR matchmaker and we’ll do the work for you.

3. Looking to meet someone? Head for an outer borough.

Ladies, your best chance of meeting a single guy isn’t in Manhattan, or even Tribeca. Instead, try Queens – specifically Long Island City, where there are the greatest number of men living alone. Though, guys – your best bet is to stay in the inner city; in the Upper East Side, single women outnumber the men almost 2 to 1!
Tip: Only 9 percent of women and 2 percent of men say they’ve found a relationship at a bar or club- – so if that’s your plan, nix it. You’ll have better luck at a coffee shop or even a museum, where you can find someone who shares similar interests.
