Summer’s not over yet! And if you’ve got a vacay coming up, there’s no quicker way to feel even more fab in your bathing suit than by adding cardio to your daily routine.
CosmoBody celebrity trainer, Astrid McGuire, knows all about sculpting stars for the red carpet. Her super-effective boot camp workouts combine weightlifting with interval training for wowza results. Check out her five need-to-know cardio tips that can help whether you’re new to fitness or looking to up your game.
1. Don’t be concerned about tracking your mileage.
If you’re new to running or coming off a hiatus – just start moving. It’s already more than sitting on the couch. Concentrate on developing a regular plan you can stick to, even if that means covering shorter distances.
2. Do short bursts of cardio.
Try this: Jog for 1 minute, then sprint for 20 seconds. Recover by walking – then repeat!
3. Use a foam roller before and after cardio for trigger point therapy.
Foam rollers are an inexpensive way to self-massage your muscles and release the tightness that can occur after a workout. Your body will thank you (trust us!).
4. Don’t chug your water!
Let’s be clear: You should drink lots of water. But while you’re crushing a cardio workout, gulping gallons can lead to side cramps. Instead, take small, frequent sips. You’ll stay hydrated and keep up your pace. 5. Find a way to be active seven days a week. Get out and get moving everyday, but only push yourself five days a week. You’ll improve your endurance and keep your heart healthy when you give your bod regular breaks.
