Happy Hour For The Health-Conscious: Green Tea Tasting
Need a change of pace from your regular happy hour? This healthy alternative is just as fun, minus the hangover.
We recently visited the New York location of the renowned Japanese tea house Ippodo.
At the serene tea house in Midtown, we enjoyed a green tea lesson and tasting, which included the sampling of five different types of green tea. Unlike the cocktails we normally slurp down, green tea boasts a multitude of health benefits. The antioxidant-packed drink may help to reduce risk for several cancers and heart disease, as well as block the oxidation of LDL (bad) cholesterol, increase HDL (good) cholesterol and improve artery function. A Chinese study published recently in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed a 46 to 65 percent reduction in hypertension risk in regular consumers of oolong or green tea, compared to non-consumers of tea, according to Harvard Women’s Health Watch.
