Whaleboat races at HarborFest in Sag Harbor. This year’s festival will take place from Sept. 6-8.

In 1963, the Old Whalers’ Festival was first introduced to attract attention to the town of Sag Harbor. Today, Sag Harbor is one of the most popular places to visit in the Hamptons!
This year’s festival, HarborFest 2013, will take place on Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8.

Each year, HarborFest has lots of mouthwatering local food and drinks, music and dancing, and the famous whaleboat races.

To kick off this year’s event, there will be a benefit party at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum on Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. The “HarborFest Fiesta” will feature Montaco Truck tacos, Montauk Brewing Company beer, Channing Daughters wine, ice cream from Sylvester & Co. and music by DJ Mister Lama.

On Sept. 7 and 8, Sag Harbor’s Long Wharf will be filled with vendors participating in the Taste of Sag Harbor and activities for kids. The Chowder Contest will take place on Sept. 8. After 2 days of intense races, the 2013 Whaleboat Champion will be crowned.
